Elvira Vakhidova was also recognized for both her on-court play and her classwork. She burst on the scene in 1994, winning Sunshine State Conference Freshman of the Year honors as the Bucs went undefeated in the league and advanced to the Elite 8 for the first time in school history. She earned All-America honors from the AVCA that year.
As a sophomore, she was a starter on the Bucs’? national championship squad, and earned her first of two straight CoSIDA Academic All-America awards. As a senior in 1997, she led the Bucs back to the national championship match and paced the team with 30 kills in what has been called the greatest match in Division II championship history. She ranks third on the all-time Barry list with 1,446 kills and fifth with 1,142 digs.
