Program goals are:

- To protect and promote the academic integrity of the University
- To comply with all University policies and procedures and NCAA rules and regulations
Types of Assistance Offered
Academic Monitoring and Class Performance
All student-athletes are academically monitored. Professors having student-athletes enrolled in their courses provide feedback, through Student-Athlete Academic Reporting System, to the Assistant Athletic Director for Academic Success (AADAS) and coaches regarding student-athlete attendance, grades, class participation, and academic progress. Additionally at mid-term, academic performance deficiencies are reported and appropriate academic intervention is determined (i.e., tutoring, study requirement). The AADAS, GA for Academic Support and head coach regularly review all feedback from professors. If feedback shows that you are in need of academic assistance, the AADAS and GA will assign the appropriate academic performance strategy to improve your performance.
Study Hall
The weekly Study Hall requirement provides you with the opportunity to allot time for weekly study, develop time management skills, and sets the stage for your academic success. Study Hall can be used as a tool to develop sound study habits and leadership development skills. You must meet the entire Study Hall hourly requirement each and every week. Specific Study Hall requirements will be discussed with you at the beginning of the Fall and Spring semesters by the AADAS and/or your Head Coach, and/or the Academic Support Graduate Assistant. In addition, the AADAS may add a study hall requirement during the semester if an academic deficiency is identified or reported. Coaches may also have their own study hall sessions you must attend.
BUCS Tutoring
Tutoring is available for many courses at Barry University. Tutoring assistance is available for CHE, BIO, ACC, CS 180, PHY, ENG, SPA, and MAT through department tutors, the Glenn Hubert Learning Center, and (BUCS) Tutoring Team. Information regarding tutoring services may be obtained through the AADAS, the Academic Support GA, CASA, the Learning Center, the professor, or through the specific department offering the course.
The Barry University Community Service (BUCS) Tutoring Team provides you with individual and/or group tutorial assistance in subjects other than English or mathematics and allows you, your student-athlete peers, and other students the opportunity to contribute service to the University community. Each semester, AADAS identifies members of the BUCS Tutoring Team (members could be from Chi Alpha Sigma and 5th Year Aid), though tutors may also apply independently. Student tutors are available for individual assistance upon request as their schedules permit.
The Learning Center provides additional assistance from professional tutors. Tutor training sessions precede actual tutoring responsibility. The Learning Center offers tutoring in Reading skills development. The Learning Center also offers supplemental instruction (SI) and complementary instruction (CI) courses that accompany your academic courses each semester. Information regarding the Learning Center can be obtained directly through the Student Web – Academic Links or A-Z, BUCWIS A-Z, by visiting the Learning Center in Garner Hall, or through the HSC Academic Support Bulletin Board, or via the Assistant Athletic Director for Academic Success.
