MIAMI SHORES, Fla.--Men's basketball added a transfer post in 6-7 James Montgomery from NCAA Division II Molloy in New York for the 2021-22 season.
"James is an experienced, versatile post player," Barry head coach Butch Estes said. "He can work inside and outside, but is very polished offensively. We have a lot of good returning post players, but he will compliment them very well. He just makes us more versatile."
Montgomery was a First-Team All-East Coast Conference performer for coach Charles Marquardt with the Lions, averaging 17.3 points and 9.7 rebounds per game, leading the team and placing third in the conference in both categories. He added 2.5 assists and 1.2 steals per game. He shot 48.0 percent from the floor, including 37.5 percent from three-point range, and 67.0 percent from the line. He score 20+ points four times, including a season-high 30 on Feb. 6 against D'Yoouville. He posted three double-doubles.
He played in all 29 games as a freshman, starting 19. He averaged 6.3 points and 3.4 rebounds. He had seven double figure games, including a season-high 25 st Bridgeport on Jan. 15. He had a double-double with 14 points and 16 rebounds on Feb. 5 at St. Thomas Aquinas, which earned him one of his two ECC Rookie of the Week awards.
He led the Lynbrook High Owls to a conference title as a senior, averaging 14.2 points per game. He scored a game-high 22 points in the title game. He earned All-Conference and All-Nassau County honors.
"I chose to come to Barry because I got a really good feeling with Coach Estes and also with the guys on the team." Montgomery said. "I thought Barry would be the best place for me to compete for a national championship with a great team that I can play an important role on, while also developing my game to hopefully continue beyond the college level."
Montgomery joins OT Delancy (6-5, G/F, Lakewood HS) and Malik Stanley (6-0, G, Warren Central HS) in the class.
