LEXINGTON, Ky. – The American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) has released the 2025 Team Academic Awards sponsored by INTENT. All three Barry Buccaneer volleyball programs (men's and women's indoor and women's beach) were recognized for their academic excellence throughout the 2024-25 academic year. The Bucs were one of three schools across all divisions to score the trifecta of having all three programs awarded.
In order for a team to qualify for the Team Academic Award, only players that had played in at least one set were considered and together they would have to have a team cumulative grade-point average of 3.3 or higher on a 4.0 scale.
The Women's beach volleyball team led the way with a 3.522 GPA, it marks their second straight year earning the honor. Women's indoor volleyball followed right behind with a 3.374 GPA, while the men's volleyball team accumulated a 3.364 GPA in their inaugural season. It was the 14th honor in the last 16 seasons and 16th overall for the indoor team. Fiona Baker was able to contribute to the success of the indoor and beach volleyball team, qualifying on both ends.
Overall, there were 47 student-athletes that were represented, two of which had a perfect 4.0 in both semesters, Josh Luce on the men's team and Petra Brkcic on the women's indoor team. Out of the 47, 25 student-athletes had a GPA of 3.50 or higher, making over 50-percent of those qualified achieving the feat.
Barry was one of three Sunshine State Conference schools to be named for women's indoor and beach joined by Eckerd and Florida Southern.
