Block Party Sends Volleyball to South Regional Final

Barry had 10 blocks and just two attacking errors in secound round win over #18 Lynn

TAMPA, Fla.   What an afternoon for the third ranked and second seeded Barry Women's Volleyball team who punched their ticket to the regional semifinal for the first time since 2022. The Buccaneers picked up their third straight sweep, taking down defending national champions Lynn in the second round of the NCAA DII National Tournament.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Set One - Veronika Eremeeva got the scoring started with the first kill of the match. Eremeeva, Valeriya Kozlova, and Varvara Osychenko had three straight kills to give Barry some cushion on the scoreboard. Lynn fought their wzy back and tied it up at 10-all. A 7-1 run ended the set that gave the Buccaneers the match lead. Gaia Riedmüller had a service ace to close it out. The Bucs hit .526 in the set with four service aces and two blocks. Lynn had five more kills but had four attacking and four service errors that ultimately gave Barry the edge. | Barry 25, Lynn 18
  • Set Two - The second set saw 11 ties and three lead changes, the Bucs also had a 76 sideout percentage. Barry was trailing 16-18 before. A run of four straight gave them the lead that would hold through the set. A big block from Ivana Žujovic and McKayla Theleus ended the set for the Buccaneers. Kozlova led with seven kills and two service aces. Barry did not make a single attacking error in the set hitting .481. | Barry 25, Lynn 21
  • Set Three - Eremeeva started off the set the same way set two ended with a big solo block, this time from Eremeeva. The Bucs trailed by as much as four at 10-14 before slowly chipping away. Eremeeva once again locked in for a big block with the help of Frankie Good this time to give Barry the lead at 20-19 forcing a Fighting Knights timeout. A 5-1 run closed out the match that sent the Buccaneers to the regional final. Eremeeva picked up the final kill and had four in the set, adding on four blocks and a service ace as well. The defense at the net forced a .088 hitting percentage for Lynn as they recorded seven blocks. | Barry 25, Lynn 21

NOTEWORTHY:

  • Kozlova led the match with 15 kills, with a new career-high .577 swing percentage. it is her fifth zero error match, four in 15-plus attempt matches.
  • Eremeeva had 12 kills with one error hitting .478, with two service aces and four blocks.
  • This is the first time in program history that the Buccaneers record just two attacking errors in a match. (stats only go back to 1998)
  • The previous record was three attacking errors in a 2010 against Florida Tech.
  • The .478 team hitting percentage is seventh best in a match in program history.
  • Barry had 10 service aces, second most in a three-set match in program history. 
  • The 10 blocks are tied for second-most in a three-set match in program history.

Barry will advance onto the regional final and will take on top-seeded, Tampa on Saturday, December 6 at 7:00 p.m. from the Martinez Center.
