MIAMI SHORES, Fla. – The volleyball season may have ended but the awards have not for the Barry Women's Volleyball team as Valeriya Kozlova and Veronika Eremeeva added to their illustrious collection. Over the last week the American Volleyball Coaches Assosiciation (AVCA) and the Division II Conference Commissioners Assosication (D2CCA) have announced their regional and national awards.
More first continue for the Buccaneers volleyball program as Kozlova becomes the program's first ever AVCA National Freshman of the Year. The honor began to be awarded at the Division II in 2017. Kozlova has now swept all possible Freshman of the Year honors starting at the conference level, then winning AVCA South Regional, and now the AVCA National award. She was also named player of the year three times this season, in the Sunshine State and for the AVCA and D2CCA regional level.
In total, the freshman earned 18 award this season: five-time SSC offensive player of the week, two-time AVCA national player week, All-SSC first team, two-time All-Region first team, two-time All-American, three-time player of the year, and three-time freshmen of the year.
In her first season, she had 475 kills, 4.66 kills/set, .351 hitting percentage, 40 service aces, 14 block solos, 59 block assists,73 blocks, 558.5 points and 5.48 points per set in 29 matches played. In the regular season, she finished in the top-10 in the nation in points per set (5.44, 4th) and kills per set (4.63, 7th), while leading the conference in points per set and hitting percentage (0.345).
Kozlova placed her name on several single season list categories: kills (12th), kills per set (9th), hitting percentage (13th), points (11th) and points per set (7th).
Veronika Eremeeva continued to add to her trophy case after an impressive freshman season. The sophomore followed with similar honors in All-SSC first team, AVCA All-Region selection, and moved up into being named a second-team AVCA All-American. In addition, she was named the SSC offensive player of the week twice.
Eremeeva saw improvements in 10 different categories: kills (318), kills per set (3.70), less attacking errors, hitting percentage (.266), service aces (57), service aces per set (0.66), block solos (10), blocks per set (0.66), points (408.5) and points per set (4.75). She set the program's new single season record in service aces per set, finished with the fifth most aces in a single season, and tied for 18th in point per set. All in four less matches, and nine less sets played than her freshmen campaign.
The sophomore finished out the regular season fourth in aces per set in the country at 0.68 and 18th in points per set at 4.83.
