MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -- The Barry University Buccaneers are the No. 1 seed in the 2025 NCAA Division II Women's Tennis Finals as they look to reclaim their crown this year at Sanlando Park. The Bucs look to be the first Division II women's tennis program to have nine national championship titles.
The Bucs (22-1) face off against the sixteen-seeded Spartans of St. Thomas Aquinas (15-5) on Wednesday, May 21 at Sanlando Park at 8:00 a.m. ET in the first round of the tournament.
The Bucs, who lead in the ITA national poll, are coming off their 19th regional championship. eighth in a row. They defeated 13th-ranked and fifth-seeded Mississippi College 4-1 in the finals of the South Regional to punch their ticket to the final site for NCAA Nationals.
The Bucs are led by Viktoriia Dema who primarily plays in the top two flights, she is currently ranked 15th in singles, compiling a record of 14-3, going 6-1 against nationally-ranked opponents. Andrea Di Palma comes into nationals ranked 22nd in singles, recording a record of 12-1, primarily no. three singles, she is currently riding a 10-match win streak and was the clincher in the SSC Tournament. Dinara Alloiarova (19-1), Angela Leweurs (15-1), and Ailen Crespo (15-1) round out singles players with double digit wins and just one loss. On the doubles side, Crespo and Di Palma head into the tournament ranked 15th and hold a 14-2 overall record. Dema and Maria Tatarnikova have also made a solid team, ranked 45th by the ITA, they hold a 12-2 record and are a four match winning streak.
The Spartans, ranked 42nd in the ITA poll, advanced out of the East Region as the second seed, defeating, #48 Wilmington (DE) 4-3 in the regional final. The Spartans doubles team of Rosberg/Villegas Robles is ranked 50th, no singles players are ranked.
The Bucs beat the Spartans 4-0 in their first meeting last year.
The Spartans-Buccaneers winner will take on the winner of eighth-seeded Point Loma vs. ninth-seeded Augustana (SD) on Wednesday, May 22 at 9:00 am (Eastern) in the national quarterfinals.
