LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Barry University's Maci Barnhart was named 2023 Division II Wilson/NFCA Pitcher of the Week. She was recognized for her outstanding performances April 3-9. It marked the second honor for Barnhart this season (https://nfca.org/divnews/ncaa2/division-ii-player-pitcher-of-the-week-2-21-23).
Barnhart twirled a pair of complete-game shutouts against Palm Beach Atlantic last week. She scattered nine hits, struck out 18 and walked two over 14 innings. Barnhart did not allow an extra-base hit. In her first start, the junior hurler fanned 12 and allowed two hits. Barnhart followed up with seven punch outs in her second outing.
IUP's Delaney Patella was named 2023 Division II Louisville Slugger/NFCA Player of the Week.
Patella powered IUP to seven wins last week, batting .640 (16-for-25) with two doubles, four home runs and 13 RBI. She recorded a base knock in all eight contests, including four multi-hit games, while hitting .556 with runners in scoring position. Patella drove in a season-high four runs, going 3-for-4 with a long ball in game one versus Pitt-Johnstown. The freshman catcher & third baseman also went 7-for-7 with three RBI in a doubleheader sweep of Mercyhurst.
The Division II weekly awards are voted on by the NFCA Division II Top 25 Committee.
