MIAMI SHORES, Fla. – The Barry Softball team fell in the Sunshine State conference series opener against the Tampa Spartans from Buccaneer Field on Friday evening.

SUMMARY:
- B1 – The Buccaneers were able to jump on the scoreboard first against the Spartans using a two-out rally to put up two. Harper Bunn started it off with an infield single, she then moved into scoring position stealing second. Sarah Langlie doubled to left center and brought in Bunn. Chandler Barry then followed up with an RBI-single to center. | Barry 2, Tampa 0
- T3 – A leadoff walk started the top of the third, it was followed with a single to center to put two aboard. A double steal advanced the runners. The sequence of a wild pitch, single, and double scored three for Tampa as they took the lead. | Tampa 3, Barry 2
- T5 – The Spartans extended their lead with two in the top of the fifth. A squeeze play scored the first run and sacrifice fly scored the next. | Tampa 5, Barry 2
- B5 – Barry was able to scratch for two in the bottom half and stay in the game. Serah Shafer and Harper Bunn had back-to-back infield singles to reach. An error from the second baseman advanced them both. Langlie and Barry then came through again and delivered two more runs to make it a one run game. | Tampa 5, Barry 4
- T6 – Tampa added an insurance run with a two-out double that scored on the advancement of a wild pitch and single. | Tampa 6, Barry 4
- B6 – Shelby Prevatte led off the inning reaching on a fielding error from the shortstop. She came around to score after being moved from a Cameron Marchese single and Shafer bringing her in with an RBI-single. | Tampa 6, Barry 5
- T7 - The game was put away with the Spartans putting up a three-run top of the seventh that gave them enough distance to close it out. | Tampa 9, Barry 5
NOTEWORTHY:
- Both teams had double digits hits.
- Shafer, Bunn, and Langlie all collected multi-hit games.
- Langlie and Barry had multi-RBI games.
- Shafer collected her 24th multi-hit game, her 21st with two hits, making it the most in a single season in program history.
- Seven of the nine starters collected a hit.
