LOUISVILLE, Ky. (February 21, 2023) -- Barry University softball junior Maci Barnhart earns National Pitcher of the Week accolades from the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) after twirling 16 shutout innings, going 2-0 with a save for the Buccaneers last week. The junior right-hander tossed two complete-game shutouts of Sunshine State Conference-foe Florida Southern. In 14 innings of work against the Mocs, Barnhart struck out 24, allowed just four hits and did not issue a walk. She recorded a career high 17 punchouts in game one versus Florida Southern. Barnhart also earned a two-inning save against Flagler, fanning four and not walking a batter. The Sebring, Fla. native held the opposition to a .075 batting average and registered a 0.250 WHIP.

"Obviously,a great week for Maci," says Buccaneer head coach Sean Cotter. "Dominant, two wins and a save, all within the region. The strikeouts speak for themselves, and the command of the strike zone without allowing free passes, let us get onto this week as we head up to Saint Leo."

The Buccaneers (11-5, 2-1 SSC) return to action this weekend with a three-game series on the road against Saint Leo University.

Established in 1983, the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) is the professional growth organization for fastpitch softball coaches from all competitive levels of play. Although collegiate coaches comprised the majority of the organization's membership in the early days, today they are joined by high school, travel ball, professional and international coaches, along with umpires, clubs, companies and fans of fastpitch softball. Growing from 40 members in 1983 to over 6,500 today, the NFCA boasts members from all 50 states and several international countries.
