MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -- Barry University softball coach
Sean Cotter announced the signing of
MacQuarrie Stone-Folmar on Thursday. The left-handed shortstop is the first member of the 2021 signing class for the Buccaneers.
" I have known Mac's mom for 20 plus years," Cotter said. "She is the head coach at Western Connecticut State, so I have seen Mac grow from a baby, to a little girl, to a very talented high school athlete. She brings so much to the table as a kid out of high school. Being a coaches kid, she has a great understanding of the game and the skill set of a well coached, and highly skilled athlete. We believe we landed one of the top players in the state of Connecticut we're excited to get her to The Shores," Cotter added.
Stone-Folmar's bat has plenty of pop, but she can also beat you with the bunt. The last time she was on the field as a sophomore, she tied the Connecticut all-time home run record with 19. She finished the season batting .571. Her junior year was canceled due to Covid-19 and the decision regarding her senior year is still in question.
"The feel around campus at BarryU was a very welcoming community," Stone-Folmar said. "I chose BarryU because everyone on campus felt like a big family. Also, the opportunity to play softball outside all year round was a big plus for me," Stone-Folmar added.
