MIAMI SHORES, Fla.—The softball team get 2015 Reunion Week going on Tuesday, Feb. 17 as they host the Kentucky State Thorobettes at Buccaneer Field in a doubleheader beginning at 3:00 pm.
The Bucs (8-3) are riding high after winning seven of their last eight games, including all four games at the South/Southeast Region Crossover Tournament last weekend.
The Bucs have claimed the last two Sunshine State Conference Players of the Week. Megan Copeland, who leads the team with a .545 average, 13 runs scored and 12 stolen bases, won the honor for Feb. 2. Dee Espinosa, who is hitting .353 with a homer and 12 RBI, picked up the award this week.
A strong offense has carried the Bucs in the early season. They are batting .345 as a team and averaging 6.5 runs per game. Good control of the strike zone has been a key, as they have drawn 38 walks against just 28 strikeouts.
Haley Wiseman and Taylor Sabol have handled most of the pitching duties, with a helping hand from Kristina Pazienza, who also helps man third base. Wiseman is 5-1 on the season and has struck out 44 in 40.0 innings. Sabol is 2-2 and has 29 strikeouts, against just seven walks, in 25.1 innings. Pazienza's 1.45 ERA is the best on the staff and she has a win and a save in three appearances.
The Thorobrettes are 0-5 after dropping a doubleheader to Alcorn State and a three-game set to Spring Hill. They are hitting just .170 as a team and have a 7.52 ERA in 27 innings.
