Box Score MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -- The Barry University softball team (26-15, 5-8 SSC) shut out the Lynn Fighting Knights (31-15-1, 6-7 SSC) 2-0 earlier tonight in the front end of a three-game Sunshine Conference series.

The Knights threatened to score early with the bases loaded and two outs in the second, but the Buccaneers narrowly escaped when Barry pitcher Elizabeth Bennett forced Lynn's Stacey Smith to ground out ending the threat. Two innings later, Barry's scoring drought ended when Kim Fujimoto drove in Sarah Backe with a sacrifice fly to center field.

Later in the sixth, Fujimoto led off the inning with a single and later scored on Maile Keeney's RBI double to give Barry a 2-0 lead heading into the seventh. Bennett shut the Knights down in order in the seventh to lift Barry to the 2-0 conference win.

Bennett (21-11) hurled a complete game three-hit shutout and struck out three to pick up the win for Barry, while Aimee Murch (19-6) gave up two runs on five hits and struck out eight in the loss for Lynn.

Fujimoto was 1 for 1 with an RBI to lead Barry at the plate, while Keeney added a double and an RBI. Brandi Webb went 2 for 2 to lead the Knights.

Both teams will resume play for the final two games of the series on Saturday, Apr. 17 at 5 pm.
