Box Score FT. LAUDERDALE, Fla. -- The Barry University softball team (19-12) picked up a 5-3 win over the Nova Southeastern Knights (25-12) earlier tonight to start a three-game non-conference series at A.D. Griffin Sports Complex.
Nova took a 2-0 lead in the fourth when third baseman Krystal Lamb lined a two RBI double to left field scoring Janette Rodriguez and Kate Veltri. The Buccaneers responded in the fifth posting four hits and tying the game at two apiece on RBI singles from Ashley Loose and
Maile Keeney.
In the sixth, Krista Latessa gave the Bucs a 3-2 lead with an RBI single that scored Erin Sutton, who sparked the late offensive surge with a double to left center. Delilah Stroup later extended the Buccaneer lead by two with the eventual game-winning RBI triple. The Knights narrowed the gap to 4-3 on an Angela Martinez RBI single, but Barry's Heather Hodges solidified the 5-3 win with an RBI double to deep left center.
Barry's Elizabeth Bennet (15-8) picked up the win for the Buccaneers striking out nine in the seven-inning affair, while giving up three runs on five hits. Shannon Lynch (10-6) gave up five runs, 11 hits and struck out seven in the loss for Nova.
The Buccaneers pounded out 11 hits in the win with Loose, Stroup and Keeney leading the way with two hits and an RBI each. Dian Goolsby led the Knights with two hits, while Lamb gave Nova two RBI's.
Both Barry and Nova will wrap up the three-game series with a doubleheader scheduled for Saturday, Mar. 20 at 5 pm.
