Box Score 2 MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -- The Barry University softball team fell to the North Florida Ospreys 3-2 and 7-1 in a doubleheader earlier today at Buccaneer Field.
In the first game, the Ospreys tallied three runs on four hits in the third, while taking advantage of a Buccaneer error to take the early lead in the top half of the second. The Buccaneers answered in the bottom of the second with Amanda Moore scoring from third on a Lauren Daily dropped fly ball in right field. The Bucs added another run in the bottom of the third, but fell 3-2 to open the series.
Elizabeth Bennett (7-3) took the loss giving up 13 hits, three unearned runs and struck out two. Cari Chewning (5-1) earned the win giving up seven hits two unearned runs and striking out one.
In the series finale, the Buccaneers took an early 1-0 lead in the first on an Amber Rodda RBI double, but a seven-run fourth inning gave the Ospreys a 7-1 advantage. North Florida pitcher Alisha Phillips (4-0) struck out five and allowed one run earning the win, while Sarah Backe (0-3) suffered the loss for Barry giving up nine hits, seven runs (six earned) and struck out one.
Krista Latessa finished 3 for 5 to lead the Bucs at the plate, while Maile Keeny finished 3 for 7. Cari Chewning finished 4 for 8 with two RBI to lead the Ospreys.
The Buccaneer will resume Sunshine State Conference play on Friday, Feb. 20 taking on Florida Southern at 7 pm in Lakeland, Fla. for the first game of a three-game conference. series.
