Box Score MIAMI SHORES, Fla—The coaches scheduled a pitcher's dual but a slugfest broke out at the NCAA Division II Softball South Region Tournament at Buccaneer Field, with West Florida upsetting number-one seed Barry 7-6 thanks to two homeruns by Allison Milliman.

Natalie Manis got the Argonauts on top early, smacking a two-run homer in the bottom of the first inning.

"The long ball really made the difference for us today," UWF head coach Tami Cyr said. "We're used to playing on a longer field and with the shorter fence, a lot of balls went out today."

But the Bucs answered back in the top of the next frame. Kristina Socarras singled and scored on an error and Krista Latessa knocked in Nora Conroy with a base hit.

In the third, Barry leapt in front 5-2. Sarah White drove in KD Smith who had walked and White came around on a two-run homer by Amanda Moore.

But Milliman pulled the Argonauts back to 5-3 with a solo homer in the fourth and then put a stamp on the game with a grand slam in the fifth.

"After they walked Natalie (Manis) if felt I just had to get a hit," Milliman said. "When I hit it I was just so pumped up, I guess it went out."

Amanda Moore later added a solo shot for Barry to trim the lead to one, but that was as close as the Bucs would get as UWF's Jackie Moore (24-2) closed the door.

Jackie Moore pitched 4.1 innings in relief of starter Tanya Teague allowing only Moore's homer and a walk with three strikeouts.

Barry's Geralyn Elam (31-5)surrendered eight hits, including the three homers, seven runs (six earned). She walked two and struck out 10. Elam had never given up more than four runs in 68 career starts.

The Bucs drop down to face the winner of the Valdosta State/Alabama-Huntsville game at 1:00 pm tomorrow.

"We just have to focus on one game at a time now," Barry head coach Shelly Lis said. "Our south region is very strong and whoever you play, it's going to be a great game."
