Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 LAKELAND, Fla. -- The top-ranked Barry University softball team bit the Florida Southern Mocs earlier today in Sunshine State Conference action. The Buccaneers won both ends of the doubleheader 4-1 and 4-2.

Kristina Socarras gave the Bucs an early 1-0 lead in the first game with an RBI single to center while Heather Hodges rounded the bags for the score. Sarah White scored on a Florida Southern error in the third to extend the Bucs' lead to two, but the Mocs added a run in the fourth narrowing the gap to one.

The Bucs sealed the victory in the sixth with two runs ignited by a KD Smith RBI triple with two outs. Heather Hodges drove in the Smith for the final run and the 4-1 victory.

Hodges, White, and Socarras each added two hits apiece to lead the Bucs. Geralyn Elam (25-4) earned the win giving up one run on five hits and struck out 11. Florida Southern ace Stacey Bronson (16-7) gave up four runs on nine hits and struck out five in the loss.

In the series finale, Bobbie Brandon gave the Mocs the early 1-0 lead scoring on a wild pitch in the second inning. The Bucs then took advantage of two Moc errors in the third to reclaim the lead 2-1. The Mocs returned the favor in the bottom half of the inning and tied the game at two apiece. However, behind the solid defensive efforts of third baseman Krista Latessa and single RBI's from Hodges and White, the Bucs pulled out the 4-2 win in the nightcap.

White went two-for-three with two RBI to lead the Bucs, while Latessa and Smith added two hits apiece. Smith also led the Bucs crossing the dish twice.

Erin Cormier (17-3) gave up two runs (one earned) on five hits and walked one in the win, while Teri Morgan (12-9) took the loss for Florida Southern giving up four runs (three earned) on seven hits with one strikeout.

The Buccaneers improved to 42-7 overall and 19-1 in the SSC, while the Mocs fell to 19-17, 13-9. The Buccaneer return to the diamond on Sunday, Apr. 13 taking on conference rival Saint Leo at 1 pm.
