Box Score 2 KISSIMMEE, Fla. -- The Barry University softball team notched two more wins earlier today defeating the Northwood (Mich.) Timberwolves 7-4 and the South Dakota Coyotes 3-1.
In the first game, freshman Kim Fujimoto started the scoring for the Bucs in the top of the second with a leadoff double then later scored on an RBI double by fellow freshman Amanda Moore to give the Bucs a 1-0 lead. Moore later scored on a Nora Conroy RBI double to extend the lead to two. The Bucs added two more in the third and three in the fourth to lead 7-0 heading into the stretch. The Timberwolves (1-7) took advantage of three Buccaneer errors in the bottom half of the seventh, but held on for the 7-4 win.
Moore led the Bucs going two-for-four with three RBI. Erin Cormier (7-1) gave up four unearned runs and struck out seven to earn the win. Jackie Ruma (0-4) took the loss for the Timberwolves and gave up seven runs (four earned) and struck out one.
In the nightcap, the Bucs scored early on a Fujimoto RBI single that scored KD Smith to take a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first. The Bucs added two more in the third to extend the lead 3-0. In the top of the seventh, the Coyotes (4-4) tried to mount a comeback and cut the lead to 3-1 on four back-to-back singles, the Buccaneer ace Geralyn Elam buckeled down to seal the victory.
Fujimoto led the Bucs with a three-for-three performance at the plate with two RBI. Elam (13-2) struck out 11 and gave up one run to earn the win, while Angela Palma (2-2) took the loss for the Coyotes giving up three runs (two earned) and struck out nine.
The Buccaneers improve to 20-5 overall and will have a day off before resuming play on the final day of week one at the Rebel Games. The will be back in action on Saturday, Mar. 8 taking on Wayne State (Mich.) at 2:20 pm followed by a 4:10 pm match-up with Lake Superior.
