Spartans Sweep Softball

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 TAMPA, Fla.--The fifth-ranked Barry Buccaneers were swept by the Tampa Spartans in a Sunshine State Conference softball doubleheader 2-1 and 3-0 Sunday at the UT Softball Field.

The Spartans scored the winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning of the first game on a dropped popup and then plated three runs in the second for the sweep.

Christy Exizian (18-7) pick up the win in both games for the Spartans. She worked three innings in relief in game one, allowing a run on two hits and walk, while striking out two. In the second game, she spun a three-hit shutout, stiking out six.

Geralyn Elam (19-3) saw her nine-game winning streak come to an end in the first game. She allowed two runs, one earned, on five hits and four walks and struck out 10.

In game two, Erin Cormier (6-4) took the loss. She gave up three runs, two earned, on four hits, wlaking three and striking out five.

The Buccaneers drop to 28-12, 13-7 in the SSC. The Spartans improve to 29-10, 14-8 in the conference.
