Softball Splits at Lynn

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 BOCA RATON, Fla.--The Barry Buccaneers and the Lynn Fighting Knights split a Sunshine State Confernece softball doubleheader at the McCusker Sportsplex Wednesday afternoon, with the Bucs winning game one 3-0 and Knights rebounding with a 1-0 win in the nightcap.

The Buccaneers won game one behind Geralyn Elam's fifth one-hitter and Jenny Miranda keyed a three-run first inning with a two-RBI single.

Elam (18-2) walked a season high five batters and struck out six, but allowed only Kelli Vetter's one-out double in the first inning. Erika Youngblood (11-10) took the loss for the Knights allowing three earned runs on five hits, while walking three and striking out four.

In the second game, Miranda Schultz hit a leadoff homer for the Knights and Kelly Gardner (14-7) made it stand up as she shutout the Buccaneers on three hits. She did not walk a batter and struckout six. Erin Cormier (6-3) took the loss for the Barry. She allowed four hits, including Schultz's homer, walking two and striking out a pair.

The Buccaneers (27-9, 12-4 SSC), who moved to number five in the National Fastpitch Coaches Association NCAA Division II national poll, are on the road this weekend at Eckerd on Saturday and Tampa on Sunday. Lynn is now 25-19, 8-10 in the SSC.
