Box Score 2 MONTICELLO, Ark. -- The Barry University softball team swept a double-header earlier this afternoon blanking the Arkansas-Monticello Cotton Blossoms 2-0, 8-0.
In game one, Geralyn Elam (5-1) earned the win for the Buccaneers hurling a seven innings shutout allowing only two hits. She struck every batter in the lineup at least once for a total of 17 strikeouts setting a new school record for strikeouts in a single game. Jamie Thomas (4-4) took the loss for the Blossoms giving up two unearned runs on four hits, while striking out six.
K.D. Smith led the Bucs hitting a two-RBI double in the second inning that scored the only runs of the game giving the Bucs a 2-0 victory. She finished the game going two-for-four with two RBI. Hillary Hamilton and Jenny Miranda added the Bucs' only other hits.
In the second game, four Blossom errors led to a six-run second inning to give the Buccaneers the advantage. For the game, the Blossom committed six errors and gave up seven unearned runs, which resulted in an 8-0 Buccaneer victory.
Geralyn Elam (6-1) started started the second game earning the her second win of the day for the Bucs. She pitched 4.0 innings giving up only two hits and no runs, while striking out five. Erin Cormier closed the game in the final inning allowing one hit before the game was called due to the five-inning mercy rule. Lindsey Kight (8-1) took the loss for the Blossoms giving up eight runs (seven unearned) on six hits and struck out five.
Lindsey Rhodes led the Buccaneers at the plate going two-for-two with three RBI and a run scored. Hillary Hamilton and Carrie Roberts added a one-for-two performance a piece, while Kristina Socarras added an RBI.
The Bucs improve to 10-4 overall, while the Blossoms fell to 13-5. The Buccaneers will return to action on Thursday, Mar. 7 playing Delta State at Arkansas-Monticello. The double-header is scheduled for 1 p.m.
