Softball Sweeps Pair From Knights

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 MIAMI SHORES, Fla.--The Barry Buccaneers swept a Sunshine State Conference doubleheader from the Lynn Knights 4-2 and 5-3 at Buccaneer Field Wednesday night.

In game one, Heather Hodges went two-for-three and socked a two-run homer in the fourth inning for the Bucs. She added an RBI single in the sixth.

The Knights scored twice in the sixth inning on an RBI single by Amanda Prokop and an error.

Nora Conroy got Barry on the board in the second inning with a sacrifice fly scoring Jenny Miranda.


Geralyn Elam (14-2) went the distance for the Bucs, allowing two unearned runs on three hits while striking out 12. Erika Youngblood (11-6) went six innings allowing four runs, one earned, on seven hits and a walk. She struck out four.

In game two, Lindsey Rhodes smacked a three-run homer in the fifth inning to put Barry 5-0 and the Bucs held on for a 5-3 win. She went two-for-three and drove in four on the night.

Miranda Schulz and Candy Winters drove in the Knights three runs with back-to-back doubles in the sixth inning.

Erin Cormier (6-1) tossed six innings, giving up three earned runs on four hits and two walks, striking out five. Elam pitched a perfect seventh to earn her first save. Kelly Gardner (11-6) took the loss for the Knights, allowing five runs, all earned, on seven hits in six innings.

The Bucs improve to 23-7, 8-2 in the SSC. They move into a first-place tie with Saint Leo. The teams will meet on April 6 in the next action for both teams. Lynn falls to 22-14, 5-5 in the conference.
