Box Score 2 MIAMI SHORES, Fla.--The #16 ranked Barry Buccaneers spilt a Sunshine State Conference softball doubleheader with the #4 ranked Tampa Spartans at Buccaneer Field Sunday afternoon, winning game one 2-1 and dropping the night cap 1-0.
The Bucs salvaged a win in game one. Trailing 1-0 going to the bottom of the seventh inning, Lindsey Rhodes crushed a leadoff homer to tie the game. Jenny Miranda followed with a single and scored on a base hit by pinch hitter Regan Riley.
Geralyn Elam (10-2) pitch both ends of the doubleheader. In game one, she came within one out of her second no-hitter of the season. For the day, she tossed 14 innings, allowed two runs, one earned, and struck out 21.
Christy Exizian (7-3) took the loss in game one for Tampa allowing two earned runs on six hits, while striking out four.
In game two, Katie Bender provided all the offense either team could muster with a solo homer in the second inning.
Melissa Holmes (4-0) tossed the shutout, allowing seven hits and one walk and striking two.
Barry is now 18-6, 3-1 in the SSC, while Tampa is 15-4, 2-4 in the league. The Buccaneers are back in action on Saturday, March 23 on the road at Rollins.
