Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 MIAMI SHORES, Fla.--The Barry softball team opened Sunshine State Conference play with a double-header sweep of Eckerd 2-0 and 7-0 at Buccaneer field Saturday afternoon.

The Bucs' Geralyn Elam (9-1) came within five outs of her second no-hitter, yielding only a one-out single to Chelsey Polgar in the sixth inning. She struck out 13 and did not walk a batter. She faced only two batters over the minimum. Kristina Lemon (3-8) took the loss for the Tritons, despite giving up only one earned run. In six innings, she allowed six hits and two walks while striking out three.

Carrie Roberts earned the Bucs the win in the fifth inning. She singled with one out, stole second and third and scored on a error by shortstop Ashley Barabas. Sarah White hit her first homer of the year for an insurance run in the sixth.

In the second game, it was Erin Cormier (5-1) tossing her second straight shutout in a 7-0 win. She allowed only two hits and two walks, while striking out six. Lindsay Sivard (4-9) took the loss for Eckerd. She allowed seven runs, one earned, on 11 hits. She struck out three and did not walk a batter.

The Bucs got single runs in the first and fourth innings, then blew the game open in the sixth with five runs, aided by three Triton errors. Kristina Socarras and Heather Hodges each had RBI singles.

The Bucs improve to 17-5, 2-0 in the SSC, while Eckerd falls to 7-17, 1-3 in the conference. Barry hosts the #4-ranked Tampa Spartans on Sunday at 1:00 pm.
