Box Score 2 VALDOSTA, Ga.—The Barry Buccaneers swept a pair of games from the Gulf South Conference at the Super 8 Slugfest in Valdosta, Ga., Saturday afternoon.
In the opener, the Bucs knocked off West Florida 3-0 behind another complete game from Geralyn Elam (4-0). The junior went the distance, allowing only three hits and two walks, while striking out 10. Jenny Miranda keyed a three-run fourth inning with a double and two RBI.
Tanya Teague (1-3) took the loss for the Argonauts allowing all three runs, two earned, on five hits and two walks, while striking out seven.
In the second game, it was Elam again going the distance and allowing three runs, two earned, on eight hits. She did not walk a batter and struck out 14.
The Chargers built a 3-0 lead on an unearned run in the second and a two-run homer by Ashley Potter in the fourth.
But Barry stormed back with a three-run bottom of the fourth, with RBI from Miranda, Conroy and Stroup.
In the seventh, KD Smith led off with a single and stole second. Hillary Hamilton moved her to third with a bunt and Lindsey Rhodes drew a pass. After Rhodes swiped second uncontested, Sarah White knocked a ball through the left side to score Smith with the winning run.
Elam saw her 32.1 inning scoreless streak snapped on the Chargers' unearned run the second.
Barry is now 7-2 and has won five in a row. Barry will face host Valdosta State on Sunday at noon in the final game of the tournament.
