Softball Splits With Knights

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 MIAMI SHORES, Fla.--The Barry softball team split a pair of games with the Nova Southeastern Knights Wednesday night at Buccaneer Field.

In the opener, the Knights scored two runs in the eighth inning off Lindsey Rhodes (0-2). Christy Alvarez and Staci Melnick coaxed walks to start the inning and Stephanie Schaefer and Janette Rodriguez each drove in a run.

Jen Ridenoure (1-0) tossed a complete-game, three-hit shutout, walking four and striking out 12. Rhodes pitched one inning, allowing two runs, both earned, on one hit and three walks. Barry starter Geralyn Elam pitched five innings of one-hit ball, with nine strikeouts.

In the nightcap, Barry grabbed an early lead, scoring twice in the second inning. Nora Conroy led off with a double and Krista Latessa reached on an error. Carrie Roberts drove in Conroy with a double and Latessa scored on a ground out by KD Smith.

Elam (1-0) went the distance for the Bucs with a three-hit shutout. She struck out nine and walked one. Kristina Harvin (0-1) took the loss for the Knights. She allowed both runs on five hits with five strikeouts and did not walk a batter.

Barry is now 2-2, while Nova Southeastern opens the season 1-1.
