MIAMI SHORES, Fla. – Director of Volleyball Leonid Yelin announced the first signee for the 2026 class for Barry women's volleyball in freshman middle hitter Mia Groom.
Groom is a local talent from Miami and played at Immaculata La-Salle. During her collegiate career she tallied 262 kills, 168 total blocks, 77 digs, 18 aces, and swung a .228 clip in 191 sets played. In her senior season, Groom led the 3A Class and ranked 25th overall in the state of Florida in total blocks with 87. The Lions won their district championship and made it to the regional quarterfinals.
"I chose Barry because it feels like somewhere I could see myself growing to my fullest potential and excelling in," Groom said.
The Bucs will open up their season on August 27 against Central Missouri at the Sandy Hoffman Memorial Tournament in Waltham, Massachusetts from the Dana Center.
