SURPRISE, Ariz. -- Barry's Alina Michalitsch and Viktoriia Dema earned ITA women's tennis singles All-American on Tuesday after leading the Buccaneers to the NCAA Division II National Championship.
The pair led Barry to a 26-1 record, including 9-0 in the Sunshine State Conference, capturing the SSC regular season and tournament titles, along with the NCAA South Region Championship along with the national title. The national championship was the ninth for the program, setting an NCAA D-II record.
Michalitsch, a sophomore from Neustadt, Austria, went 10-8 in the spring, after going 6-0 in the fall and winning the ITA South Region championship. She finished the season ranked seventh. It is her first All-America commendation.
Dema, a junior from Kyiv, Ukraine, went 16-4 in singles split between the top two flights. She posted a 7-2 record against nationally ranked opponents. She finished the season ranked 14th by the ITA. She repeats as an All-American after ranking 10th last year.
