LAKELAND, Fla. -- Three of the four Buccaneer women's tennis players Angela Leweurs, Alina Michalitsch, Viktoriia Dema and Andrea Di Palma, advanced to the semifinals of the ITA South Regional in Lakeland, Fla., at the Wynee Ward Tennis Complex.
SINGLES:
Leweurs (Barry) defeated Maria Penalver (Lee) in the Round of 16, 6-0, 6-2 to advance to the Quarterfinals, then got past tournament #1 seed Salma Djoubri of Lynn in the quarters when the Knight had to retire with an injury. Lewuers led 6-4, 4-3 in the match at the time.
Di Palma (Barry) defeated Alyssa Novoa (Valdosta State) 6-0, 6-3 in the Round of 16 to be the second Buc to advance to the Quarterfinals. In the quarters, she beat Carlota Verdu of West Florida 2-6, 6-2, 10-4.Â
Lewuers and Di Palma will face off in the semifinals tomorrow.
Alina Michalitsch (Barry) defeated Emma Roberts (Mississippi College) in a stunning match with a score of 6-1, 4-6, and 10-3 in the Round of 16 to be the third Buc to advance to the next round. She dispatched Nova Southeastern's Kristyna Hranacova 7-5, 7-5 to advance to the semifinals.
Viktoriia Dema defeated Aline Midori (West Florida) in the Round of 16 with a score of 6-0, 2-6, 10-2 she would unfortunately retire in her Quarterfinals match against Ashleigh Simes (Lee), the match ended with a score of 6-2, 5-1 in Simes favor.
Michalitsch will face Simes in the other semifinal.
DOUBLES:
The doubles team of Di Palma/Dema (Barry) beat Valdosta State's Natalie Rainke and Lea Cakarevic with a score of 8-0 in Round of 16 to advance to the Quarterfinals.
Alloiarova/Tatarnikova (Barry) beat Ita Habekovic/Sofia Shing (Nova) in the Round of 16 with a score of 8-2, where they will go on to face Ana Julissa De Mata/Emma Roberts (Mississippi) in the Quarterfinals.
