DAHLONEGA, Ga. (Monday, March 6, 2023) -- The Barry University softball team was swept in a non-league doubleheader at the No. 2-ranked University of North Georgia, 2-1 in the opener and 3-2 in the nightcap. The two wins for the Nighthawks (22-1) gave head coach Mike Davenport his 1,000th career victory on Monday afternoon at Haines & Carolyn Hill Stadium at Lynn Cottrell Park.

All-Time Series: North Georgia now owns an 8-2 mark in the all-time series. The two Buccaneer victories were both by a 1-0 final score, first in 2007 and again in 2012.

Gracie Mixson followed with a single up the middle before pinch runner Madison Cosgrove stole second and Jolie Lester's single put Nighthawks at the corners. Sophie Mooney made it a 2-0 score with her sacrifice fly to right field. | North Georgia 2, Barry 0
  • T4: Rylee Lord was hit by a pitch to lead off the frame and moved to second on a ground out. With two outs, Jordan Ream singled to center to put the Bucs on the board with Lord crossing the plate. | North Georgia 2, Barry 1
  • B4: The Nighthawks scored an unearned run after two were out with Georgia Blair reaching on an error and advancing Madison Simmons to second. Gracie Mixson singled to left field to score Simmons. | North Georgia 3, Barry 1
  • T5: Mac Stone-Folmar and Taylor Thompson had back-to-back doubles to lead off the inning with Stone-Folmar scoring to pull the Bucs within one. | North Georgia 3, Barry 2

NOTEWORTHY:

  • Taylor Thompson had her team-leading eighth extra-base hit of the season.
  • Mac Stone-Folmar had her team-leading sixth double of the year.
  • Tybee Denton (W, 6-0) pitched the nightcap with 10 strikeouts for the Nighthawks.
  • Maci Barnhart (L, 6-4) suffered the loss in Game Two and combined for five innings pitched with just two earned runs against.
  • Haelee Angelic (L, 2-4) took the decision in Game One pitching into the 6th inning.

ON THE HORIZON:
The Buccaneers will stop at No. 13 Valdosta State on Tuesday, March 7, for a 4 p.m. single game with the Blazers.
