MIAMI SHORES, Fla.--The Barry Buccaneers put three members on the Women's At-Large Academic All-South Region Team, announced by the College Sports Information Director's of America (CoSIDA) on Thursday.
Barry's Maria Stampolkou and Alejandra Alonso from rowing and women's golfer Eve Marie Sapin were named to the Academic All-Region team.
Stampolkou carries a 3.93 GPA as an academic senior and athletic sophomore due to CoVID. A criminology major, she is a four-time member of Barry's President's List (4.0 GPA), three-time member of the Sunshine State Conference Commissioner's Honor Roll and was named CRCA Scholar All-American and rowing All-American last year. She has helped lead Barry to a silver medal in the Varisty 4+ at the Head of the Charles and a gold medal in the Varisty 8+ at the SSC Regatta this year.
Alonso, who rowed in the same boats as Stampolkou at the HOCR and the SSC, also rowed for her native Paraguay at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics in the single sculls. An athletic junior and academic senior, she has a 3.65 GPA in sport management & business administration. She is also a three-time member of the SSC Commissioner's Honor Roll and earned CRCA Scholar All-America and rowing All-America honors.
Sapin led the Bucs to the semifinals of match play at the 2022 NCAA Division II Women's Golf Championship and earned Second-Team All-America from the WGCA this year. She is another athletic junior and academic senior after CoVID and carries a 3.66 GPA in international business. A three-time member of the SSC Commissioner's Honor Roll, she was also a WGCA All-American Scholar last year.
