Baseball Looks To Rebound Against Moccasins

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. – The Barry Buccaneers host the 18th-ranked Florida Southern Moccasins in a Sunshine State Conference baseball series at Feinbloom Field on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 28-29.

Both teams are coming off a 2-1 conference loss on opening weekend, with Barry dropping two games at home to the Nova Southeastern Sharks and the Mocs falling in two of three at Tampa. The Bucs (9-2. 1-2 SSC) fell three spots to sixth in the latest NCBWA South Region Poll after the series with the Sharks. Florida Southern (9-4, 1-2 SSC) fell out of the top spot to third in the region in the latest poll.

Despite the stumble last weekend, the Bucs still lead the conference in batting and ERA. Barry is first in batting a .324 and on-base percentage at .424 and tied for second in slugging at .466. They are second in the league in runs scored per game (8.27). From the mound, the Bucs have a 1.64 ERA and are holding the opposition to a .177 batting average, leading the league in both. They are second in strikeouts per nine innings (9.36), walks per nine innings (2.99) and ratio (3.12:1). The Moccasins are batting .276 with a .366 on-base percentage and a league-best .498 slugging. They average 6.38 runs per game and lead the conference with 25 home runs. On the mound, Moc hurlers have a 4.17 ERA, third in the league, a .265 average against and 89 strikeouts against 68 walks, for a 1.30:1 ratio, last in the conference.
