MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -- The Barry Buccaneers placed four on the Baseball Academic All-District team this season. Jack Ensell, John Perozzi, Jalen Smith and Tyler Venegas were all recognized for their outstanding work in the classroom.
Ensell, a sophomore from Jacksonville, Fla., carries a 3.590 GPA in kinesiology & human performance. In 13 games, 12 starts, he posted a 3-4 record with a 4/94 ERA. In 58.1 innings, he struck out a team-best 69 batters and walked 26, while hitting 16 more. He won the Bucky Award for best individual performance by striking out 14 Nova Southeastern Sharks in six innings in a 2-0 win to open the Sunshine State Conference series.
Perozzi, a senior from Audubon, N.J., compiled a 3.792 GPA in kinesiology & human performance. One of the top relief pitchers in the SSC, he tied for the league lead with seven saves. Overall, in 21 appearances, he was 2-3 with a 3.77 ERA in 31.0 innings, striking out 35 and walking just seven.
Smith*, a junior from Tampa, Fla., turned in a 3.600 GPA in kinesiology & human performance. The top hitter for the Buccaneers, the first baseman led the team with a .333 average, 19 doubles, 12 homers and 55 RBI. He led the Sunshine State Conference in total bases at 125, ranked sixth in slugging (.601) and fourth in RBI. He was named Second-Team All-SSC and First-Team All-South Region by the ABCA.
Venegas, a sophomore from Miramar, Fla., compiled a 3.886 GPA in marketing. Arguably, the most valuable pitcher for the Bucs in 2026, he started the season as the go-to man in the bullpen and later transitioned to the Friday night starter in conference. He went 5-2 in 16 games, with four starts, posting a team-best 3.48 ERA in 54.1 innings with 44 strikeouts against 16 walks. He had five relief outings of 4+ innings. In his four starts, he averaged 5.1 innings.
The 2025-26 Academic All-District® Baseball teams, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom.
The CSC Academic All-District® teams require players to maintain at least a 3.5 GPA as both a undergraduate and graduate student, as well as meet minimum standards for competition. Student-athletes must compete in 90 percent of the institution's games played OR must start in at least 66 percent of the institution's games. For pitchers, a student-athlete must have made at least 17 appearances OR pitched 35 innings.
Academic All-District® honorees were considered for advancement to the CSC Academic All-America® ballot.
Student-athletes selected as CSC Academic All-America® finalists, denoted with an asterisk*, advance to the national ballot to be voted on by CSC members. First-, second- and third-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced July 1, 2026.
The Division II CSC Academic All-America® program is partially financially supported by the NCAA Division II national governance structure to assist CSC with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2024-25 Divisions II Academic All-America® programs.
