MELBOURNE, Fla.--The Barry Buccaneers put three on the 2019 All-Sunshine State Conference baseball team. Voting for the All-SSC baseball awards is conducted among the league's baseball coaches.
Outfielder Andrew Rapoza and utility player Chris Cabrera made the First-Team, while reliever Hugo Casilla was named to the Second-Team.
Rapoza, who was one of only two Buccaneers to start every game, finished sixth in the conference in batting (.375) and tied for fourth in hits (69). He tied for eighth in runs scored (43) and tied for fifth in stolen bases (15). His 160 putouts in centerfield set the Barry single season record for an outfielder, breaking the mark of 136 set by Andrew Frezza in 2008.
Cabrera ranked fourth in the conference in batting (.392) and slugging (.600) and third in on-base percentage (.484). He tied for 10th in doubles (12) and was ninth in RBI (45). He split time between outfield (21 starts) and designated hitter (15). He had 17 multi-hit games and 16 multi-RBI games (tied for 10th).
Casilla tied the school record for saves (10, set by Brian Heuther in 1996), ranking tied for second in the conference. In addition, he posted a 1.69 ERA and 1.13 WHIP in 16 innings, striking out 20 and walking just six. He held opponents to a .218 batting average.
