DELAND, Fla. -- Barry University's women's tennis team opened the fall season at the Stetson University Hatter Invitational. The Bucs won four out of six doubles matches and five out of seven singles matches on the first day.
THE MATCHUPS
Today's events saw Barry face off against FGCU and Saint Leo in doubles followed by a singles showdown vs. Stetson.
SUMMARY:
- Barry went 2-1 in their first doubles match against Saint Leo
- Barry's Verena Schmid and Eleonore Berrere defeated Saint Leo's Nina Furmaniak and Kristyna Jurkova 6-1 at flight one.
- The Bucs other win saw Hannah Seizer and Julie Razafindlanaly defeat Nastasia Jedrychowski and Madeleine Gauthier 6-2 in the third flight.
- At flight two, Zuza Maciejewska and Carolin Schmidt fell 6-2 to SLU's Marta Vicens Miquel and Anna Marija Bukina.
- The Bucs went undefeated in their second doubles match of the day against NCAA Division I Florida Gulf Coast.
- Schmidt and Razafindlanaly coasted past the Eagles' third duo without dropping a set 6-0.
- After notching her first career victory as a Buccaneer in the previous match, Berrere joined forces with Seizer to overcome FGCU's Bridget Forster and Sara Kelly 6-3 at flight two.
- Schmid and Maciejewska rounded out Barry's sweep with a 6-2 victory over FGCU's first duo.
- When the courts shifted over to Singles play, Barry put forth a dominant showing vs. Stetson, winning five out of seven flights.
- Razafindlanaly displayed mid-season form when she put away Stetson's Alexe Viaud in straight sets 6-1, 6-1 at flight five.
- Maciejewska (flight two), Berrere (flight four), and Patricia Lopez (flight seven) all closed out their matches with victories in straight sets.
- Flight one saw Schmid lose a close match to Danel Ashirova in a third set super tiebreaker 6-7, 6-3, (10-8).
- Schmidt won her three-setter over Lucy Renault 6-2, 5-7, (10-5) at flight three.

Barry will look to repeat their success tomorrow during day two of the Stetson Invitational.
