LAKELAND, Fla.--Verena Schmid and Zuza Maciejewska claimed the 2018 ITA South Region Doubles title on Monday with a 6-1, 6-7, 10-6 win over fourth-seeded Krystina Jurkova and Nina Furmaniak of Saint Leo.
THE MATCHUPS
The ITA regional features several NCAA DII schools including SSC opponents Nova Southeastern, Rollins, Saint Leo, Embry-Riddle, Lynn, Florida Southern, Florida Tech and Palm Beach Atlantic.
SUMMARY:
- Doubles
- Top-seeded Schmid and Maciejewska knocked off Jurkova and Furmaniak of Saint Leo to claim the championship.
NOTEWORTHY:
- Schmid and Maciejewska join Emma Onila and Linda Fritschken (2013 & 2014) and Ildiko Csordas and Ana Maria Zuleta (2005) as ITA South Region doubles champions. Onila and Fritschken went on to win the ITA national championship.
ON THE HORIZON:
The Buccaneers will play in the CL Varner Invitational in Winter Park, Fla., Oct. 5-7. Schmid and Maciejewska advance to the ITA Small College Nationals Oct. 11-14 in Rome, Ga.
