No. 20 Men's Basketball Plays at PBA Wednesday

Bucs jump back into national rankings

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -- Barry University's No. 20-ranked men's basketball team will take its show on the road Wednesday for a 7:30 p.m. tip at Palm Beach Atlantic University's Rubin Arena.

The Buccaneers (13-4, 9-3 Sunshine State Conference) rebounded after getting bumped out of the Top 25 poll with a big win over Eckerd Saturday to find themselves back in the national rankings. To stay there, the Bucs will need to take care of business on the road. Barry plays four of its next five games on the road, including both games this week.

"It's going to be a lot of tough games, but we'll be ready," Bucs junior swingman Sawyer Glick said.

The Bucs struggled with Palm Beach Atlantic (11-13, 5-8) last year, dropping two of the three games, including the final two meetings. In fact, prior to beating the Sailfish earlier this season, Barry had dropped three of its past five games against PBA, including the last two in Rubin Arena -- both by a point.

"Palm Beach has always played us well," Barry coach Butch Estes said. "I'm sure they will again Wednesday night. We just have to take one at a time, and do the very best we can. We'll work really hard this week, and prepare for that game Wednesday night."

The Sailfish bounced back from a five-game skid to beat Florida Southern Saturday. De'Ondre Jackson leads PBA in scoring (13.5) and is shooting .411 from 3-point range, despite coming off the bench most of the year. Grant Gullett is averaging 11.5 points and 5.3 rebounds per game, while shooting .597 from the floor. Jules Jasmin is averaging 11.4 points and 4.5 boards, while shooting .618 from the floor. Dakota Zinser is scoring 9.5 points per game, and Bakari Warthen 9.2. Warthen scored 26 points against the Bucs in the first meeting.

Glick is scoring 14.9 points per game, while shooting .438 from the field. Point guard Elvar Fridriksson returned Saturday after a five-game layoff. He leads the Bucs in scoring (21.6) and assists (7.2) per game. Fridriksson moved into seventh place on the school's all-time scoring list with 1,161 career points. He is the school leader in assists (591). Including his one year at LIU-Brooklyn, he has 1,427 points and 705 assists. Marko Tomic is averaging 8.6 points and shooting .631 from the floor. He's scoring 11.8 points per game over the past four contests. Daniel Mortensen leads the Bucs in rebounding (7.4) while scoring 11.7 points per game. Sunday Dech is scoring 12.9 points and 6.2 boards per game.

Barry is tied for first in the league in the loss column with Rollins. The Bucs are 4-2 this season away from home.

"We're going to have to win this championship on the road," Estes said. "That's the hand we've been dealt with."
