VALDOSTA, Ga. -- Barry University's women's tennis team finished day two of the ITA Fall Regional Saturday. The Bucs qualified two athletes for the semifinals in doubles and one in singles.
WHAT THEY'RE SAYING:
"The players came out today and competed hard," assistant coach Steve Schram said. "Judith (Bohnenkamp) and Mara (Cerrini) had a good doubles match today, as well as Sonja (Larsen) and Verena (Schmid) continuing to play well together, as won both doubles matches. We are looking forward to a great third day Sunday."
SUMMARY:,
- Barry's power duo of Sonja Larsen and Verena Schmid struck again with two victories in doubles. They beat Fabiana Vitanza and Alexandra Borg of Rollins, 8-3, followed by a victory against Alejandra Gil and Sofia Navarro of Auburn-Montgomery, 8-3.
- Mara Cerrini and Judith Bohnenkamp won their consolation doubles match against Tonja Fossmeier and Sofia Mustre from AUM, 8-1.
- Larsen continued her unbeaten streak, defeating Jordana Lujan from West Florida 6-1, 6-1.
- Barry's Schmid fell to Natalie Kallmunzerova of Lynn, dropping the first set 6-4, and retired in the second set.
- Larsen ended day two with a 6-1, 6-0 victory for the Bucs against Saint Leo's Madeleine Gauthier.
NOTEWORTHY:
- Larsen and Schmid are going to compete in the semifinal round in doubles.
- Larsen also qualified for the quarterfinals in singles.
- Cerrini won her consolation singles match by default.
