VALDOSTA, Ga. -- Barry University's women's tennis team completed day one of the ITA South Regional hosted by Valdosta State Friday.
WHAT THEY'RE SAYING:
"It's great to be back on the courts competing again after our 2017 championship run," assistant coach Steve Schram said. "Today we had mixed results, but our four players competed hard in both singles and doubles. We look forward to another successful day tomorrow as Sonja (Larsen) and Verena (Schmid) will look to advance in both singles and doubles."
SUMMARY:
- Sonja Larsen and Verena Schmid cruised to an 8-3 win over Mississippi College's Brenna Keller and Annemarie Kimball in doubles for Barry's first win of the day.
- Barry's next doubles pair of Mara Cerrini and Judith Bohnenkamp dropped its match to Valaria Mantilla and Diana Vlad of West Florida, 9-7.
- Schmid returned to the courts in singles to grab a 6-1, 6-3 win over Erin Egoroff from Florida Tech.
- Cerrini lost 6-2, 7-5, against Alexandra Yeardly of Nova in singles.
- Larsen rolled past Katie Dyson of Rollins, 6-1, 6-1 in singles.
- Bohnenkamp won her first singles match against Delta's Charlotte Le Flohic 6-0, 6-0, but lost her second match 6-3, 6-4, against Alina Munteanu of Montevallo.
NOTEWORTHY:
- Larsen and Schmid are in the main draw Saturday for both singles and doubles.
- Cerrini will compete in the consolation singles Saturday.
