MIAMI SHORES, Fla. – The Barry baseball team travels to St. Petersburg, FL this weekend to take on the Eckerd Tritons in a three-game series over Friday and Saturday. This will be the first conference series on the road so far this season for the Bucs.
Barry (13-11, 1-2 SSC) currently leads the all-time series against Eckerd, 66-34. The Bucs were able to grab two wins against the Tritons in last season's series between the two sides.
Julian Abreu leads the Bucs into this weekend batting .402, with 37 hits, 10 doubles, and one home run. He is also fourth in the league in stolen bases. Right behind him are Justin Lamazares (.398) and Ryan Baldwin (.374), who combine for 69 hits, 15 doubles, eight home runs, and a whopping 47 RBI so far this season.
Eckerd (10-13, 2-4 SSC) sit in seventh in the league standings, just one spot behind Barry. The Tritons have the top strikeout pitcher in the league at the moment, as Dillon McCollough leads the league with 50 strikeouts.
The Tritons are led at the plate by freshman outfielder Sam Cochrane, and sophomore infielder Nick Conti. The duo lead the team in batting average, with Cochrane batting .388 and Conti hitting .386 on the season thus far. Cochrane is tied for fourth in the league in doubles, while he sits in second in the league in at-bats with 98 plate appearances.
Both teams are going into the weekend on win streaks. The Bucs are currently coming off of a comeback win against American International College Tuesday night, extending their win streak to six consecutive games. Eckerd on the other hand, are going into the weekend series having a two-game win streak. They just beat the University of Bridgeport in back-to-back days on Tuesday and Wednesday earlier this week.
