MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -- Barry's baseball team hosts the home opener Wednesday night against Ave Maria.
The Bucs are currently 1-2 on the season, after dropping a close match against No. 1 Nova Southeastern this past Sunday in extra innings.
Alffredi Ramos currently leads the Buccaneers with a .400 batting average. Ramos, Barry's designated hitter, has four hits in 10 at-bats, including a double and a home run.
Ryan Baldwin and Justin Lamazares follow behind Ramos, each with a .273 batting average after three games. Both players have three hits in 11 at-bats, and they both have a double so far as well. Lamazares also leads the team in homers, with one against PBA and one against Nova.
Ave Maria finished last season with an overall record of 19-34. The last time the Gyrenes and Bucs met, was in Barry's final home game of the season at Feinbloom Field in 2015, when the Buccaneers grabbed the 8-4 victory. Prior to that, the Gyrenes took the first win of the all-time series when they beat Barry 10-7 back in 2013 in Miami Shores.
Jonathan Quintana, Barry's now center fielder, was the pitcher who grabbed the win for the Bucs against the Gyrenes back in 2015.
