MIAMI SHORES, Fla. – The Barry baseball program opens up conference play this weekend against the visiting Tampa Spartans.

The Barry Buccaneers go into Friday's game on a four-game win streak. They swept Tuskegee last weekend, and the Bucs routed Ave Maria on Tuesday 10-2, after losing to the Gyrenes earlier in the season.
The Bucs have gotten the bats rolling lately taking top spots on the conference leader boards. Sophomore Justin Lamazares (5th) leads the team in batting average, hitting .462, followed by Andrew Rapoza (8th) hitting .450. The duo are also among the top ranks for slugging percentage and on-base percentage.
Julian Abreu is tied for the first in the league with runs scored (17). Lamazares has 18 hits, good for third in the conference, and Ryan Baldwin has 17 to take ninth on the board for hits. Baldwin is also tied for first in the league in doubles with six on the season thus far.
The Spartans finished last season 41-10 overall, and finished first in the conference. Tampa swept the Bucs last year, and made it to the Regional Round of the NCAA Tournament. They are led by Kevin Santa and Kyle Cotilletta, who currently take the top spots in the conference for batting average.
