MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -- The Barry University baseball team will host the Golden Tigers of Tuskegee University this weekend, starting with a game Friday night at 6 pm, followed by the first home double-header of the season on Saturday.
Barry (2-6) are currently enduring a three-game losing drought, but look to change that this weekend against the Golden Tigers. The Buccaneers currently lead the Tigers 5-1 in the all-time series. The Bucs have also scored into double digits during four out of their five wins against Tuskegee.
Tuskegee (5-4) finished last season with an overall record of 13-29. They are currently coming to Feinbloom Field off of a two-game losing streak to Eastern New Mexico.
The Bucs look to get the bats rolling with players such as Justin Lamazares, who is tied for second in the league for home runs (3). Lamazares is also fourth in the conference with a slugging percentage of .808%. Ryan Baldwin and Lamazares are tied for third in the doubles category with three doubles a piece. Baldwin is also tied for seventh in the conference in hits, having 12 in the first eight games of the season, good for a .375 batting average.
Alffredi Ramos follows right behind Baldwin in hits with 10 on the season thus far. He and Julian Abreu are each batting .400, to lead the team.
On the mound, Alex Lavandero has pitched 12.1 innings, striking out 14 batters, with seven of those batters striking out looking. Lavandero's 14 strikeouts is good for fourth in the league. He also has one win on the season and currently has a 1.46 ERA.
