MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -- Barry basketball travels to Tampa to battle with the Spartans this Saturday at the Bob Martinez Athletics Center.

The Bucs are 6-2 overall, 2-1 in the conference after grabbing a home victory against Rollins last Saturday, 78-60. Barry increased its winning streak to four games with the victory. The Bucs are ranked third in the country in three-point field goal per game (10.3).

Barry's Barbara Cousiño leads the conference in three-pointers with 22 with a .489 percentage. She also leads the SSC in free throw percentage at .962. Her 16.6 points per game average is the best on the team, followed by Kiara Palmer at 15.6. Palmer is also first on the team and second in the league in blocked shots (19) and blocked shots average (2.4). In the offensive rebounding category, Palmer has the best average in the league at 3.5 per game.

The Spartans (7-1, 3-1 SSC) are also on a four-game winning streak.

Staja Tyghter is right behind Palmer in total rebounds for Tampa at 8.9 a game. Rachel Warden has been strong from three-point range, sinking 18 "threes" in eight games for the Spartans. Lauren Kotey and Molly Franson lead the team in blocked shots with 10 apiece, and are averaging 1.3 a game.

Men's Basketball - Saturday, Dec. 9, 4:00 pm, Bob Martinez Center

Barry's men's team (6-1, 3-0 SSC) will play the Spartans at 4 p.m. The Bucs enter the game on a three-game win streak.

Barry's Daniel Mortensen was named Sunshine State Conference's Men's Basketball Defensive Player of the Week, after his 16 rebounds, two blocks and a steal in the Buccaneers' two wins last week. The Denmark native scored a season-high 22 points last Wednesday. Johannes Dolven is shooting 72.7 percent from the floor for the Bucs, which is a team and league best. Elvar Fridriksson's 18.4 points per game average is good for top 10 in the league, along with a league best 7.7 assists per game average.

Tampa (4-4, 1-3 SSC) is coming off of a 72-65 win over Lynn Saturday. 

Pat Bacon leads the Spartans in scoring at 23.1 points per game, which ranks second in the league. Duke Shelton leads the league in rebounding with an average of 13.1 a game. Shelton is also second in blocked shots, already with 13 on the season while averaging 1.3 a game.
