WINTER PARK, Fla. -- Barry University women's tennis pair
Judith Bohnenkamp and
Zuza Maciejewska won the Varner Invitational Flight A doubles title Saturday at Rollins College.
Bohnenkamp and Maciejewska defeated Saint Leo's Marta Vicens Miquel and Andrade Gordon, 9-7, in the championship match.
WHAT THEY'RE SAYING:
"Judith stepped up," Barry assistant coach Steve Schram said. "It's been a great fall."
SUMMARY:
- Bohnenkamp and Maciejewska won the top bracket by going 3-0 in the weekend.
- Maciejewska won the first set against Rollins' Fabiana Vitanza, 7-5, before retiring with an injury in the Flight A singles semifinals. Maciejewska won her quarterfinal match against Rollins' Katie Dyson, 6-4, 6-4, on Friday.
- Bohnenkamp lost in the Flight B semifinals, 6-4, 6-4, to Savanna Fuller of Rollins. Bohnenkamp defeated Rollins' Teresa Kaiser, 6-4, 4-6, 10-7, in the quarterfinals.
NOTEWORTHY:
- Bohnenkamp also won the backdraw doubles title of the ITA South Region Championships this fall.
- This was Maciejewska's first tournament of the fall.
- Schram has guided the Bucs to three titles this fall.
