Box Score BOCA RATON, Fla. -- Barry University women's tennis season came to an end Sunday when the sixth-ranked Buccaneers fell to fifth-ranked Lynn in the NCAA South Region 2 championship, 5-1.
Barry finished the season with an 18-4 record. Lynn (22-3) moves on to the NCAA Championships in Denver. The loss snapped a run of six straight appearances at the NCAA Championships for the Buccaneers.
Third-ranked
Emma Onila accounted for Barry's lone point as she recorded a win in the final match of her career. She beat 38th-ranked Grace Mpassy, who retired with Onila leading 6-1, 2-0 at No. 1 singles. But the Fighting Knights won at Nos. 2 and 6 singles to clinch the match.
Lynn won all three doubles matches. Barry's
Zuza Maciejewska and
Judith Bohnenkamp pushed Mpassy and Martina Gledacheva to the brink before falling, 9-8 (7-5), at No. 3 doubles. Onila and
Ana Pain fell 8-6 to Alina Jane and Carolina Cuevas at No. 2.
Sonja Larsen and
Barbora Kijasova lost to Diana Bogolii and Rosalie Willig, 8-3, at No. 1 pairs.
Barry's 45th-ranked Larsen was tied 6-6 with 25th-ranked Willig at No. 3 singles when the match ended.
