Box Score BOCA RATON, Fla. -- Barry University women's tennis team swept Benedict, 5-0, in the NCAA South Region 2 Tournament at Lynn University Saturday. The third-seeded Buccaneers (18-3) will meet second-seeded Lynn (21-3) at noon Sunday for the region title at Perper Tennis Complex.
Benedict finished its season with a 19-6 record. The Tigers, who are based out of Columbia, South Carolina, had won nine straight matches. It was the first meeting between the two schools.Â
The Bucs, ranked sixth in the country, will play the fifth-ranked Fighting Knights for the third time this season. Barry lost to Lynn, 5-3, in the Sunshine State Conference Championship last weekend in Tampa.Â
In this match, Barry jumped out to a 3-0 lead after sweeping doubles.
Zuza Maciejewska and
Judith Bohnenkamp beat Adrienne Milow and Juliet Campbell, 8-0.
Ana Pain and
Emma Onila picked up the second pairs win at No. 2 with an 8-1 victory over Danyelle Copeland and Daniella Rios. At the top position,
Sonja Larsen and
Barbora Kijasova defeated Karla Flores and Esther Zelaya, 8-2, to complete the doubles sweep.
Fifteenth-ranked Maciejewska gave the Bucs a 4-0 lead, rolling past Flores, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 1 singles. Bohnenkamp wrapped up the win when she shut out Milow, 6-0, 6-0, at the No. 6 position. Barry was up a set in all of the remaining four singles matches.
