MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -- Barry baseball returns to Sunshine State Conference action this weekend as it travels to Melbourne to take on conference foe Florida Tech.
The Buccaneers are looking to move up the conference standings, currently situated in eighth place, while FIT sits in sixth.
The Panthers are 20-14 this season with a 4-8 record in SSC play. Their last time on the diamond was an 11-1 win over Palm Beach Atlantic.
The all-time series between the two teams is close and competitive, with Barry holding a 57-56 lead in the record book. Last season, the Panthers swept the Bucs in the four game series, with Barry's last win versus FIT coming in a series sweep in April 2014.
This season, the Panthers have numerous hitting threats on their roster such as sophomore outfielder Daniel Szpik, who leads the team with a .401 BA, 55 hits, 39 RBI, three triples and five homeruns. Junior infielder John Sternagel leads the team with 41 runs and is second with a .359 BA and 51 hits.
On the mound, the Panthers will look to sophomore RHP Drew Beyer, who leads the starters with a 2.60 ERA in 34.2 IP. Sophomore RHP Ty Cohen leads the team with 58 strikeouts and 54.2 IP.
The Bucs will aim to get back in the SSC race in this weekend's series, which begins with Friday's night at 6 PM. Saturday's doubleheader begins at 1 PM. All the action can be seen live
