Box Score MIAMI SHORES, Fla.—The second-ranked Barry Buccaneers swept the #40-ranked Florida Southern Moccasins 9-0 at the Buccaneer Tennis Center on Sunday.
The Bucs (11-0, 3-0 SSC) ran their Sunshine State Conference women's tennis winning streak to 36 matches, dating back to 2011. It was also head coach Avi Kigel's 50th SSC win against just one loss in his Barry career.
Doubles were very competitive with the Mocs (76-1-2 SSC). Thirteenth-ranked Ana Pain and Sonja Larsen and 22nd-ranked Emma Onila and Zuza Maciejewska both prevailed over their Moc opponents by 8-6 scores at number one and two respectively.
At number three, Barbora Kijasova and Judith Bohnenkamp needed a tie-breaker to defeat Nina Vucevic and Natalija Popovic 9-8 (2).
Singles went more according to form as the Bucs won all six matches handily.
Bohnenkamp shutout Carolyn Cureton 6-0, 6-0 at number six. Eighth-ranked Maciejewska handled Linnea Skymberg 6-2, 6-2 at number two.
At number three, 11th-ranked Larsen knocked off Selin Devrimci 6-3, 6-4 and 21st- ranked Pain flashed an indentical score over Lorena Rionda at number four. Kijasova scored a 6-4, 6-3 win over Popovic at number five.
The top flight was the tightest contested match, with Onila coming out on top 7-5, 6-4 over Sasha Nionova.
The Bucs travel next weekend for a trio of matches against Eckerd, third-ranked Saint Leo and #31 Embry-Riddle. The match with the Lions on Saturday, Apr. 9 will have huge ramifications in both the SSC and South Region races.
