Box Score MIAMI SHORES, Fla.—The second-ranked Barry Buccaneers made short work of the Tampa Spartans 8-1 in a Sunshine State Conference women's tennis match at the Buccaneer Tennis Center on Saturday.
The start of the match was delayed about 90 minutes due to some light rains in the area, but once it started, the Bucs (10-0, 2-0 SSC) wasted no time in setting the Spartans (6-5, 0-3 SSC) down.
The Bucs grabbed a 3-0 lead in the doubles. Judith Bohnenkamp and Barbora Kijasova shutout Cameron Moskol and Gianna Pinasco 8-0 at number three. At number one, the 22nd-ranked pair of Emma Onila and Zuza Maciejewska defeated Kristen Mee and Emily Hewland 8-2. The second flight was the most competitive, as 13th-ranked Ana Pain and Sonja Larsen won just 8-5 over Danielle Beyes and Maddie Stephens.
After going up 3-0 in doubles, the Bucs pulled Pain from the #4 spot in the singles lineup.
Onila, playing in the top flight, dispatched Mee 6-1, 6-2. At number two, 11th-ranked Larsen took care of Hewland 6-1, 6-1, while eighth-ranked Maciejewska handled Beyes 6-2, 6-1 at number three.
Moving up in the bottom three flights, Alisa Rudenko blanked PInasco 6-0, 6-0 at number six and Kijasova took down Bridgett Blowe 6-3, 6-2 at number five.
The Spartans lone point came at number four. After Bohnenkamp and Stephens split a pair of 6-4 sets, Stephens came out on top of a 10-8 score in the super-tiebreaker.
The Bucs will face off against Florida Southern on Sunday, Apr. 3 at 10:00 am.
